5 Must-Haves to Pack For a Trip to San Francisco

Before heading off on a trip to San Francisco, there are a few items you will want to pack to ensure you and your family have an experience that’s hard to fog-get.

  1. Lightweight windproof jacket:
The weather in San Francisco is unpredictable, so it is best to prepare for anything that may occur. You will likely want a light water/windproof layer as you eat outside at the award-winning restaurants and walk around exploring the unique streets and shops around town. Additionally, you can enjoy dining outdoors with friends or family while admiring the Bay. The windproof jacket will keep you warm during the cold winds and have the added benefit of being easy to carry.
  2. Comfortable walking shoes:
The pleasant climate and unique neighborhoods make San Francisco one of the best cities to see while walking. Most San Francisco visitors walk to view the city. The streets are steep and uneven but filled with character. The wide array of walking tours will immerse you in everything that makes the town so unique. Comfortable shoes for you and your family will allow for a more enjoyable experience exploring all of the neighborhoods San Francisco has to offer. Consider discovering historical Haight-Ashbury and Chinatown through a culinary walking tour.
  3. Comfortable, lightweight clothing:
Feel relaxed with the laid-back counterculture fashion of 1960’s San Francisco. The community is known for comfortable wear. Best to take cues from the locals! One of our favorite brands we shopped when in SF was Marine Layer. These clothes, including leggings, scarves, denim jackets, and cardigans, are ideal for the city’s vibe. Check out local flea markets, vintage stores, and funky shopping districts.
  4. Cross-body bag or daypack:
A bag that will not weigh you down while exploring San Francisco is a must. Depending on how old your children are, you may need a bag big enough to hold their essentials, but keep it lightweight. It will eliminate the need to carry shopping bags and help you embrace the eco-friendly ethos of San Francisco. Remember that you are in the golden city, so be stylishly relaxed. You can purchase your bags from local brands like Timbuk2 and Rickshaw Bagworks.
  5. Picnic blanket:
You cannot leave San Francisco without having a picnic. Take a trip to one of the many beautiful parks, allow the kids to run around and explore different outdoor activities.
